Streamer believes a separate app could help discoverability of sports content
Prime Video is reportedly in discussions over the creation of a sport-only streaming app.
According to The Information, the streaming platform believes that having its sport content in a separate application would help with discoverability, as well as show its range of rights and offer new monetisation options.
It is also mentioned that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy wants to continue to invest in live sport rights on the platform, which in the UK has Premier League football, Six Nations rubgy, Champions League action from next season, among its sports content. However, it does look likely that Prime Video will be losing its to tennis in the UK. It also has major rights in the US, including the NFL, MLB, and more.
However, much beyond that is unclear, including whether the app would be available globally or only in certain territories, or when it would possibly launch.
