‘Moneybags stands out due to its sheer originality, ingenuity, casting, cunning format twists and effervescent host’
Youngest Media’s Moneybags – the first daytime quiz show to put £1m at stake each week – was praised by the judges for its novel approach to the genre.
At the start of each week, 10 contestants are chosen, who will remain on the show for all five episodes across the week. They face off against each other at the ‘Money Belt’, where they must grab moneybags dangling from a conveyor belt that represent answers to questions asked by host Craig Charles. The moneybags carry a range of values, from £1,000 to £100,000.
Moneybags marks Charles’ first time hosting a TV quiz, and his “Tiggerish” presenting style was a highlight for one judge, while another called his casting “inspired”.
One judge likened the quiz to its Channel 4 forebear Deal Or No Deal, but “for a new century”.
“The questions are mischievous and leave enough doubt in your head for you to stay for the answer, while clever twists keep variety but don’t cause confusion,” they added.
The show’s diverse casting never feels forced, the judges noted, with one summing the show up: “Moneybags stands out due to its sheer originality, ingenuity, casting, cunning format twists and effervescent host. It’s a rich example of the genre, full of vim and vigour, that feels quintessentially C4.”
