E-Bike Grand Prix has made Mark Barfield its director of sport.

Barfield will be responsible for the development of the sporting and technical regulations of EBK GP, aiming to create an exciting race format for teams and fans. 

He will also work with BMC Switzerland on the development of the race E-Bike and alongside the Franchise teams to ensure they have a voice in the ongoing development of the series.

Before joining the E-Bike Grand Prix, Barfield was head of bicycle for the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry for almost four years, and a technical manager for seven. While there he introduced innovations such as disc brakes to the peloton, and with the UCI he helped the organisation tackle bike tech fraud, including detecting the illegal use of motors in traditional bikes.

Barfield also spent twelve years working for British Triathlon, leaving when the senior director. He began his career with British Cycling.

Barfield said: “EBK GP is the competition that will shake up the E-Bike market, pushing technical innovation to the next level, similar to how F1 has driven the car industry.

“I’m hugely excited to be joining the team as director of sport and look forward to delivering a bike and format that wows our spectators.”
