Alistair Brownlee, Kristian Blummenfelt, Nicola Spirig and Lucy Charles-Barclay will make the attempt this June
Gravity Media has been selected as the broadcast partner for the Pho3nix Sub7 and Sub8 project, which aims to break the record for the fastest long-distance triathlon.
It will see Alistair Brownlee and Kristian Blummenfelt aim to go under seven hours (current world record 7:21:12, by Blummenfelt in 2021) and Nicola Spirig and Lucy Charles-Barclay to go under eight hours (current world record 8:18:13, by Chrissie Wellington in 2011) over the full distance of a triathlon - 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run.
It is run by sports charity the Pho3nix Foundation and Mana Sports and Entertainment Group, with Zwift the title sponsor.
The event will take place at the Dekra Lausitzring near Dresden, Germany on 5-6 June, with Gravity to produce a 9.5-hour live broadcast with eight hours of live racing bookended by pre- and post-show content, featuring a host of special guests, pre-recorded content and technical analysis.
The broadcast will be available for free globally via streams on sub7sub8.com, and the Pho3nix Foundation YouTube and Facebook platforms.
Mike Purcell, head of production for Gravity Media in Australia, said: “This innovative and gruelling triathlon world record event will be matched by our innovative broadcast technology to engage fans through interactivity and immersion by being put in the athletes’ shoes through backstories and on-screen race data analytics.”
Pho3nix Foundation board member and Mana CEO Chris McCormack added: “Gravity Media and Mana’s senior leadership team have a long track record of collaborating on world-class, innovative broadcast productions, including the development of the inaugural Super League Hamilton Island broadcast.
“Gravity Media are willing partners who share our vision, are willing to challenge the norm and have a thirst for entertainment-led sports productions. We can’t think of a better partner to bring this extraordinary attempt to screens across the globe.”
