Streaming service launched in December
StreamAMG, digital agency Other Media, and live production specialist 247.tv were selected by the National League to power its streaming platform.
The service launched in December, with only National Division fixtures being shown through it at first. North and South clubs will be running pilot events in the second half of the season, ahead of a planned launch for them next season.
Other Media designed the platform, with StreamAMG powering its video capabilities. Meanwhile, 247.tv is providing its production capabilities for the matches themselves. In addition to live games, there are match highlights and full match replays available on demand.
The National League first announced plans for a streaming platform in the second half of the season in September, with BT Sport to continue broadcasting matches at least until its rights deal ends in 2024.
The governing body has moved to create a streaming platform after criticism from Wrexham co-owner and Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, who complained that matches not shown by BT Sport weren’t available for clubs to stream themselves.
Mark Ives, general manager of the National League, said: “This is a significant project and moment for The Vanarama National League. Over the last nine months, we have been through an exhaustive process to ensure we launch the best platform we possibly could. In doing so, it was important we selected the best partners possible and are delighted to be working with StreamAMG, Other Media and 247.tv.
“The platform will launch in full on the 26th December with our 24 National Division clubs and our aim is to expand with North and South clubs in due course. We are confident that we can build on the already record attendances in stadia as well as delivering a fantastic platform for fans who ordinarily would not be able to attend matches.”
CEO of StreamAMG Hugo Sharman commented: “We are delighted to partner with National League on this hugely exciting project. Our experience in football streaming spans decades, and we’re looking forward to helping the league drive new revenue streams, whilst making it accessible to fans both at home and across the globe.”
George Crabb, managing director of Other Media, added: “This is a significant step forward for National League football and we’re thrilled to be employing our extensive sporting expertise in delivering the very best digital fan experience for so many supporters.”
Adrian Battersby, head of production at 247.TV, said: “Having being involved with producing high quality National League coverage with some clubs during the covid period and being involved with the production of the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary, we are delighted to take this a step further with a partnership with all 24 clubs for delivering content to the new platform and truly take the league into new areas.”
