All major football matches, horseracing, golf and cricket events are called off as a mark of respect
All major football matches across England, Northern Ireland and Scotland have been postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
10 Premier League games were scheduled for this weekend (see below), which have all been called off, to be rescheduled “in due course”. Scottish Premiership fixtures, Scottish Women’s Premier League, Scottish Highland and Lowland Football League, and the Women’s Scottish Cup fixtures have also been postponed.
Premier League matches postponed
Saturday 10 September
Fulham v Chelsea
Bournemouth v Brighton and Hove Albion
Leicester City v Aston Villa
Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Southampton v Brentford
Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur
Sunday 11 September
Arsenal v Everton
West Ham United v Newcastle United
Crystal Palace v Manchester United
Monday 12 September
Leeds United v Nottingham Forest
Other football matches to be postponed include EFL games scheduled for today and tomorrow; all six of the first Women’s Super League fixtures of the season, which were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday; England’s National League matches; and FA Trophy.
Outside of football, today’s PGA Championship golf has been called off, all British horse racing (which will return on Sunday across all courses except Musselburgh due to the Queen’s body lying in state in Edinburgh) and cricket’s test between England and South Africa.
The decision to cancel events is down to the choice of individual sports and Sunday’s Great North Run will still go ahead, but be “more subdued out of respect”.
