Amazon Prime Video has reportedly failed to renew its broadcast deal

Sky Sports is set to reclaim the broadcast rights to the US Open, which it last held in 2017, according to reports.

The competition has been shown by Amazon Prime Video for the last five years, after a £30m deal, but will now return to Sky after the success of Emma Raducanu at Flushing Meadows last year - according to The Times

Amazon Prime Video agreed to show Raducanu’s US Open final free-to-air through Channel 4, with over 9 million tuning in to see the teenager’s victory.

However, the sport could now return to Sky, with Amazon staff reportedly told that the tournament will not return to its streaming service. There is also the possibility that the ATP and WTA Tours could join it as their Amazon Prime Video deals end in December 2023. This would put Prime Video’s coverage of the sport going forward into question.

The other Grand Slams may be more difficult for Sky to obtain, as Wimbledon is one of the listed events shown by the BBC - its £60m-a-year deal runs until 2027, while the French and Australian Opens on Eurosport - the former ending its time on ITV in 2021.
