Its coverage gets underway with Manchester United v Reading on Friday

Sky Sports Womens Super League

Sky Sports has revealed the regular presentation team for its Women’s Super League coverage ahead of the season start.

Manchester United v Reading kicks off the season on Sky at 7pm on Friday, with that match and Arsenal v Chelsea at 11.30am on Sunday making up the first weekend of fixtures for the broadcaster. Both will be made available on Sky Showcase for Sky customers who don’t have a sport subscription.

Sky picked up the rights for the Women’s Super League for the next three seasons this year, in the first commercial broadcast deal for the competition. 35 matches will air on the pay-TV provider, with another 22 on the BBC and the rest available through the FA Player.

It has already unveiled its first rounds of TV fixtures, with all 12 teams to be shown in the first five game weeks. It has also created a bespoke Twitter account for its coverage, @SkySportsWSL, in the same fashion as it has for the Premier League.

Caroline Barker will present the live matches, with punditry from Karen Carney. Commentary will be provided by Jacqui Oatley and Seb Hutchinson, with reporting from Lynsey Hooper.

Meanwhile, Jessica Creighton will front Inside The WSL, a weekly round-up of the news and action from the league starting from 9 September - including in-depth analysis and exclusive player interviews. Nia Wyn Thomas is the senior producer for Sky’s WSL coverage.

Thomas said: “Sky adding the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to its portfolio was a huge statement of intent, not only from a rights perspective to become the home of domestic football, but to also bring more women’s football to its existing audience. This is a ground-breaking deal and the first of its kind for a domestic women’s football game globally, and Sky will absolutely do it justice.

“Our coverage will have the same high standards of production that we see across all of Sky Sports football, and we’ll bring on board a variety of pundits and current players who will cover both men’s and women’s football to ensure expertise across the board. Customers can expect 360 storytelling across all Sky Sports channels as well as bespoke programming around the league with the addition of ‘Inside the WSL’.

“This is about fair representation and long-term success for the game and I’m privileged to be in a position to bring the thrill of the Barclays FA WSL to our audience.”
