Sky Sports has been linked with airing the US Open, ATP Tour and WTA Tour
Prime Video is reportedly set to end its tennis broadcasting deal in 2023.
According to The Times, the streaming platform will no longer air the US Open, ATP Tour, and WTA Tour next year, with Sky Sports named as the favourite to take over the rights to all three. The pay-TV provider has already been strongly linked with the US Open.
Prime Video continues to hold high profile sports rights, including football’s Champions League and Premier League, and rugby union’s Autumn Nations Series. It also streams a number of sports documentaries, including the popular All Or Nothing series.
In addition to Sky Sports, Warner Bros. Discovery may be another who could be interested in the tennis rights, with it already airing Roland-Garros and the Australian Open in the UK. It recently finalised its joint venture with BT Sport, which combines Premier League, Champions League, tennis grand slams, cycling grand tours, Olympics, MotoGP rights, and more, and sees some analysts predict it becoming a genuine competitor to Sky in the UK.
If Prime Video does move away from tennis, it is thought the reinvestment of funds raised from selling the US Open final rights to Channel 4 for Emma Raducanu’s 2021 victory into grassroots UK tennis will continue. Prime Video is working with the LTA on this, which you can read more about here.
