Documentary covers England Women’s Euros triumph
Documentary Lionesses: Champions Of Europe will premiere on BBC1 at 10.40pm on Wednesday 21 December.
The documentary will also be available on iPlayer from Thursday.
The film shows England Women’s Euros victory through the eyes of those who were there, including head coach Sarina Wiegman and captain Leah Williamson. There are also exclusive interviews with player of the tournament Beth Mead and England stalwarts Jill Scott, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze, telling the story of England’s first major tournament win since 1966.
BBC pundits Gabby Logan, Ian Wright, Alex Scott and Fara Williams also offer their thoughts on the breakthrough summer for women’s football. The 2.1 victory over Germany in the final was the most watched women’s football match in the UK ever, with a peak of 17.5 million tuning in.
A BBC report found that women’s sport has gained four million followers in 2022, helped in part by the football side’s success.
