An average audience of 18.4 million tuned in over the 90 minutes
ITV reached a peak audience of 20.4 million for its coverage of England’s 3-0 victory over Senegal on Sunday, 4 December.
Over the 90 minutes there was an average audience of 18.4 million, with an average of 13.4 million tuning in over the full programme from 6pm until 9.30pm - an audience share of 61%. Meanwhile, 10.8 million streamed the match.
This peak is 1.7 million higher than the 18.7 million that the BBC reached with England’s final group game against Wales last week. In addition, England’s opener against Iran became the most streamed event over 24 hours on BBC iPlayer with eight million.
ITV will hope to go even higher with its broadcast of England’s quarter final clash with France, which the broadcaster is showing from 6pm on Saturday, 10 December. Its new streaming platform, ITVX, will be fully launched by then too, with it set to go live on 8 December - although it is already available on several platforms.
