Richard Botchway takes new role of assistant commisioner in the sport team
ITV has appointed Richard Botchway to the new role of assistant commissioner in its sport team.
The position aims to give an additional fresh approach to ITV’s sports coverage, particularly taking advantage of the potential opportunities from ITVX. Botchway will workm under headof sport Niall Sloane.
Botchway wrote, directed, and edited Ian Wright: Nothing to Something, which ITV Sport picked up for ITV4, and executive produced The Comedy Basement, showcasing the talents of a number of black British comedians, hosted by Eddie Kadi, for ITV2. He has also worked on the Nothing To Something interview series, which featured the likes of David Haye, Chris Eubank, and John Fashanu, as well as non-sport stars such as Mark Wahlberg and P Diddy.
In terms of sport rights, the NFL recently left the BBC for ITV, the motivation for which NFL managing director for international media Sameer Pabari explained to Broadcast Sport last month. It will also be showing the men’s World Cup, alongside the BBC.
Botchway said: “I am excited to be joining ITV’s commissioning team, I have made two shows for ITV and I feel very much like my appointment in this role is almost like a homecoming, and in particular am really looking forward to working with Niall and ITV Sport again. I can’t wait to get started”.
Sloane added: “Richard is a seriously talented content creator and he will be a great addition to ITV Sport and our commissioning team”
