“Long term” extension continues relationship that has run for over 50 years
IMG and the All England Lawn Tennis Club have extended their media rights and commercial representation partnership for Wimbledon.
This “long term” extension adds to the over 50 year relationship between the pair, which aims to maximise engagement, reach and revenues for the Grand Slam tournament.
On the media rights side, a recent notable deal made by IMG was the broadcast rights renewal with ESPN in the US for another 12 years. IMG also handles commercial partnerships, for example recently agreeing a multi-year deal with Barclays to become the official banking partner of The Championships.
Rupert Hampel, EVP of media at IMG, said: “We are delighted to be extending our valued, long-standing relationship with the AELTC. Wimbledon continues to be one of the most eagerly anticipated highlights on the global sporting calendar, loved by audiences of all ages around the world. Together, we have achieved a tremendous amount and we are excited to leverage our ever-expanding capabilities, expertise and networks across IMG and Endeavor to continue building on this success.”
Usama Al-Qassab, marketing & commercial director at the All England Club, added: “The long-established partnership between the AELTC and IMG began more than 50 years ago and continues to go from strength to strength. In IMG and the Endeavor group, we have found partners who understand our organisation’s ambition to showcase Wimbledon on a global scale through our media rights and secure quality, long-term commercial opportunities. We are delighted to announce today’s extension and look forward to continuing what is one of the longest and fruitful commercial partnerships in sport in the years to come.”
