Passion Pictures production follows carbon neutral football club on and off the field

Passion Pictures FIFA+ Forest Green Rovers documentary

FIFA+ and Forest Green Rovers have announced Another Way: The Forest Green Rovers Story, a documentary film from Passion Pictures.

Directed by Bart Corpe and executive produced by Amy Foster for Passion Docs, the documentary follows the only UN-certified carbon neutral sports team both on and off the field during its League Two winning 2021/22 season.

As well as showing the team’s success on the field, it shows its efforts to be the “greenest football club in the world”. This includes powering the entire ground with renewable energy, ensuring all fans, players and staff are served vegan food, and setting out on an ambitious project to build a 100% eco-friendly stadium.

James Abraham, commissioning editor at FIFA+, said: “This is exactly why FIFA+ was created – to tell the very best stories that football has to offer, on a global scale.

“The Forest Green Rovers project is special for so many reasons, and it’s blazing a trail for how all professional sports teams can work differently in the future. At FIFA+, we’re immensely proud to be able to give a platform to this story, and it was a joy to work with Forest Green Rovers – particularly in such a successful season.”

Dale Vince, CEO at Forest Green Rovers, added: It’s been great to work with FIFA on this film – one of the first to be on their new FIFA+ channel. There have been football documentaries before of course – but none about a club like Forest Green Rovers, because there are no clubs quite like Forest Green. This film conveys our story and our work on and off the pitch perfectly. Football is a new frontier for environment responsibility and communications – something we know FIFA and FGR both see as a vital evolution for the sport.

Foster commented: “With a global reputation for crafting cinematic, impactful films with social purpose at their core, Passion Docs has always been drawn to stories that need to be told, and the Forest Green Rovers story is definitely one of them. With their trail blazing approach to football and the environment, this is a sports story that’s so important and inspiring for our time – it shows clubs and fans alike that there is another way.”

FIFA+ launched earlier this year, and Abraham has spoken to Broadcast Sport on what the streaming platform is looking for here, as well as its future content aims here.
