Popular documentary series F1: Drive To Survive has been renewed for a further two series.

Netflix and Formula One confirmed the news this week, also revealing that the fourth series was the most watched yet. It also broke into Netflix’s top ten in 56 countries.

The show takes fans behind the scenes of the F1 season, featuring one-to-one interviews and never before seen footage of the drivers, mechanics, team principals, and more. The fifth series is currently filming the 2022 F1 season, and will launch on Netflix in 2023.

Academy-Award winner James Gay-Rees (Amy, Senna) and Paul Martin (Diego Maradona) executive produce Drive To Survive for Box to Box Films.

The show’s success has spawned a slew of similar commissions from streamers and rights holders. Notable examples include a series following the PGA Tour and golf majors, and another on tennis stars in the ATP, WTA, and majors - both to be on Netflix.

If you want to learn about the use of Dolby Atmos audio on Drive To Survive, the Media Production & Technology Show has a session with Box To Box co-executive producer Tom Rogers, post house The Farm Group’s re-recording mixer Steve Speed and head of audio Nick Fry, and Dolby head of home content engineering Rob France discussing the topic on 11 May. You can register for the show, which has this session and over 150 other speakers, here.
