Documentary will look at most successful period of Liverpool’s history
BT Sport has revealed the latest documentary from BT Sport Films, The Boot Room Boys, which will air on BT Sport 3 at 10.30pm on 5 April and be available online afterwards.
The Boot Room Boys will take a look at Bill Shankly’s arrival at Liverpool FC in 1959, and the legendary lineage of coaches and managers that followed in his footsteps - including Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Ronnie Moran, Kenny Dalglish, and Roy Evans, that helped take the club from Second Division strugglers to one of the best teams in Europe.
Evans, Dalglish, Phil Thompson, Ian Rush, Sammy Lee and Willie Stevenson all speak on how the ‘boot room’, which acted as a small meeting place underneath the main stand and saw so many club legends pass through, had such a huge effect on the club.
The ‘boot room’ run came to an end in 1998 with the appointment of Gerard Houllier, but its legacy continues, and Jürgen Klopp, Peter Krawietz and Pep Lijnders reveal how it continues to shape the club.
The film is based on The Boot Room Boys book written by Peter Hooton, and is produced and directed by Tom Boswell. BT Sport Films executive producer and commissioning editor Sally Brown exec produced.
Brown said: “The Boot Room Boys is a fitting a tribute to the legacy and influence of the Shankly dynasty, not just on Liverpool Football Club, but on the English game as a whole, and provides a fascinating insight into football management.”
