The mini-documentary series runs on YouTube with new episodes each week
Airspeeder – the world’s first racing series for electric flying cars – has released the first episode of a mini-documentary series.
The production tracks the journey to the creation of the Airspeeder format, which currently focuses on racing non-crewed first-person-view drones.
While the pilots presently control the drones from the ground, the longer-term plan for Airspeeder is to have crewed electric flying cars racing each other – although this is likely a few years away at the moment.
The mini-doc series – called Journey to Test Drag Race – is hosted on YouTube, with episode one (watch below) following the teams in the build-up to race day.
The film includes Airspeeder CEO Matt Pearson, project manager Brett Hill and head of design Felix Pierron talking about why Airspeeder’s first foray into the world of sport was significant for the brand, and the future of motorsport in the skies.
Episode two will be released this week.
What is Airspeeder?
Airspeeder is the world’s first racing series for electric flying cars.
The racing multi-copters are developed at Airspeeder’s advanced aerospace engineering hub in South Australia by engineers drawn from elite motorsports, automotive, aviation and first-person-view drone, electric plane, electric vehicles and passenger drone backgrounds.
Airspeeder’s vision is to deliver “the most exciting and future-focused motorsport on the planet.”
Following an inaugural unmanned season, elite pilots will take to the skies to race on electronically governed racetracks in the skies above some of the most visually arresting scenery in the world.
