SUNDAY: BBC1’s big-budget drama War and Peace lost 1m viewers on its second outing, as ITV’s Endeavour grew its audience.

The high-profile Tolstoy adaptation continued to comfortably outperform BBC1’s 4.5m (19.9%) slot average, despite shedding 1m viewers from last week’s opener – which entertained 6.3m (25%).

Opposite, C4’s German-language import Deutschland 83 also dropped viewers, averaging 1.1m (4.4%), a loss of 400,000 from last week’s launch of 1.5m (6%).

Meanwhile, Celebrity Big Brother continued on Channel 5 with 2.1m (8.7%), broadly in line with the series average of 2.2m (10%).

The Inspector Morse prequel added 400,000 viewers from last week’s opener of 4.8m (19%) to nudge ahead of the 5.1m (22.2%) slot average.

The Mammoth Screen-produced drama was narrowly beaten in the slot by BBC1’s Antiques Roadshow, which discovered 5.5m (22.2%), according to Barb data provided by overnights.tv.

BBC2 added 600,000 viewers to Dragons’ Den, which averaged 2.6m (10.4%), compared to last week’s 2m (7.7%), while C4’s five-part adventure series Walking The Himalayas continued with 1.9m (7.7%), in line with the series average, with two episodes remaining.

Earlier in the evening, ITV’s teatime drama Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands averaged 2.3m (10.5%) from 7pm to 8pm. It lost 300,000 viewers from last week’s opener, which entertained 2.6m (11.1%).
