TSI TX has purpose-built a new live sports production area to cope with a two-year deal between itself, BT Broadcast Services and Uefa and Fifa.

The London facility has invested close to £1m over the past two months, including building two live galleries and three voice-over booths. They will be used to provide live presentation, voice and edit services for as many as 350 Uefa Cup matches and Fifa World Cup qualifiers over the next two years.

BT Broadcast Services will be delivering the live broadcasts internationally for foreign broadcasters.

TSI TX general manager Rupert Graves said: 'We're looking to provide the ability to manage channels using the depth of services that we have across the company. With TSI's post facilities and our design agency, Skin, also attached it makes it a lot easier for TSI TX to sell itself.'

Following recent investment, TSI TX's channel capacity has risen to 30 and its management intends to have at least 20 of those filled within a year. Two more channels are expected to sign up imminently, following a deal with The Move Channel ( Broadcast , 3.9.04).

Around £250,000 was spent on the galleries and voice-over booths, building upon the existing infrastructure. The remainder of the £1m investment was spent on increasing channel capacity.

Meanwhile, Simon Partington has been appointed TSI's head of technical operations. Partington was group operations manager at M2 for seven years and has spent the past two years freelancing. The appointment of a sports facility co-ordinator is due to be confirmed in the near future.

TSI TX has provided services for channels such as Thomas Cook TV, Simply Media TV, The Entertainment Channel, Best Direct, National Geographic, Granada Media Group, CNBC, Discovery and Animal Planet.
