Sony specialist dealer Top-Teks has placed the first UK orders for Sony’s SRW-9000 camcorder and in turn has secured its first sale.

Broadcast hire company Electra is the first company to buy the HDCAM SR shooter.

Top-Teks’ other units will be made available to customers for testing from the beginning of this month.

The SRW-9000 costs around Euro 50,000 (£46,000) and has been touted as a direct replacement for Super 16 film cameras.

Sony announced a raft of improvements to the SRW-9000 at a Power of Images event in London on 25 November.
