IBC 2016: Digital video management business The Platform has forged partnerships with Endemol Shine and Blockbuster to turbocharge their VoD offerings.

The Seattle-based business has struck a deal with the super-indie to help it syndicate its network of online channels.

Endemol will make use of The Platform’s MPX video publishing system to ensure brands such as Mr Bean (pictured) and Fear Factor are made available on new platforms and devices as they launch.

The service, which is also used by Talpa Media, provides centralised video uploads, workflow management, metadata management, subscriber management, transactions, viewing rights enforcement, and automated publishing.

Endemol Shine Group’s director of strategy and commercial development, Wim Ponnet, said “Working with The Platform allows us to explore additional premium online services and extend Endemol Shine Group’s already extensive online footprint to a wider audience.

Blockbuster

Separately, home entertainment brand Blockbuster is to expand its Netflix-style TVoD service from Denmark across the Nordics.

The OTT service, overseen by Danish telecoms business TDC, will offer consumers access to around 8,000 film titles.

The Platform partnered with user design firm TV App Agency to help it roll out the service in a few weeks, following the agreement.

Head of Blockbuster for TDC Casper Hald said he drafted in the technology partners to enable the service to be launched quickly in multiple countries.

He said: “We developed our initial version in-house, but after one year in the Danish market, we realized we needed to bring in industry experts to make the service easy to sign up, easy to pay, and easy to work instantaneously with robust scalability,” he said.

The Platform managing director Neil Berry added: “The evolution of consumers wanting to watch any screen anywhere continues to accelerate, and content owners are facing reduced time to market timelines and increased competition for consumers’ time and money.”
