Brief Create a title sequence and visual effects for the TV adaptation of Victoria Wood’s musical stage play which stars Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball. As the story unfolds during 1969 with flashbacks to 1929, the challenge was to faithfully maintain the period for both elements of the story.
How it was done The effects ranged from wholesale set alteration for set-piece musical sequences to more subtle background details to help reinforce the period.
Visual effects supervisor Tanvir Hanif and graphic designer Paul Senior created and oversaw hundreds of effects and graphics shots for the 90-minute film. Many period enhancements were required including set extensions and the removal of all traces of modernity.
In total 250 individual effect shots were created using Autodesk Maya and Fusion. The opening titles and were created in After Effects.
