BBC Technology has appointed Phil Fearnley, co-founder of the now defunct interactive specialist Smashed Atom, as director of new media solutions.His remit includes overseeing the content creation for Hutchison 3G's planned mobile phone service, the streaming partnership with Real Networks and pay-per-view cricket internet streaming with Sky Sports and Wisden.Smashed Atom was a joint-venture between Flextech and Stanford University's Atomic Tangerine venture consultancy but ceased trading last October.It was spearheaded by Fearnley who was heading Atomic Tangerine's European arm and BBC director of new media and technology Ashley Highfield, then head of Flextech Interactive (Broadcast, 19.9.01).
