Capturing clear images in very low light
Canon has launched a new HD camera designed to capture images in very low light.
The ME20F-SHN has a 2.26 megapixel full frame 35mm CMOS sensor and a DIGIC DV 4 processor and takes the technology used in the ME20F-SH camera and adds network capabilities and built-in video analytics.
Although designed for surveillance, the new camera could also be appropriate for both fixed and mobile broadcast applications.
The sensor’s pixels and readout circuitry use proprietary technology to achieve both reduced noise and high light sensitivity. The camera has a maximum ISO in excess of 4 million (+75db) and can capture subjects illuminated with less than 0.0005 lux.
Extra detail can be captured in low-light environments by removing the IR cut filter when shooting in infrared mode.
A dynamic range of up to 12 Stops (800%) is available along with ethernet, 3G/HD-SDI and HDMI ports.
An EF mount allows for a choice of lenses.
