It was shot in November under complete secrecy
Framestore has revealed the behind-the-scenes work it did on Channel 4’s Alternative Queen’s Speech.
Produced by Framestore Pictures and directed by William Bartlett, the message used deep fake technology to highlight the impact of misinformation.
BAFTA-winning Bartlett has experience with deep fake technology, having created videos of Boris Johnson and Donal Trump in the past - and presented at Cannes Lions on its opportunities.
Dead Ringers and Spitting Image star Debra Stephenson played the Queen, and it was shot in secrecy in November - which gave Framestore six weeks to feed the AI reference images of the Queen to create the deep fake.
Framestore has now released a video of what went on behind-the-scenes to create the programme, which you can watch above.
Channel 4 director of programmes, Ian Katz, said: “Deepfake technology is the frightening new frontier in the battle between misinformation and truth. This year’s Alternative Christmas Address – seemingly delivered by one of the most familiar and trusted figures in the nation – is a powerful reminder that we can no longer trust our own eyes.”
