High-end camera purchase for leading UK educational institution
Bournemouth University has invested in three Panasonic VariCam LT cameras. The institution, which runs respected animation and VFX courses, is the first UK university to purchase VariCam LT cameras, having invested in them through reseller Holdan.
The cameras have initially been used in workshop sessions, with students working in an assortment of setups, including track, jib, dolly and handheld.
“The feedback I’ve received so far is they have really enjoyed using the Varicam and actually found it quite straightforward to use,”
Neil Goridge, lecturer
“They’ve picked it up quite quickly,” said Steve Hubbard, senior lecturer in effects. “This was a concern because we only received the cameras two weeks before the students started using them.”
“The feedback I’ve received so far is they have really enjoyed using the Varicam and actually found it quite straightforward to use,” adds Neil Goridge, lecturer on Bournemouth’s MA Digital Effects course.
“The footage I’ve seen is very good and potentially gives them lots of options in post-production, which is key to animation and digital effects courses.”
The camera’s 4K capabilities and high frame rate captures were also highlighted by the University as important, in terms of futureproofing their investment.
