Applications open for second year of programme to help youngsters develop
Screen Yorkshire has opened applications for the second cohort of its Beyond Brontës skills programme.
The part-time, six-month scheme offers young people free bespoke training packages to aid their development in areas including accountancy, set design, editing and research.
Training includes masterclasses, interview and CV workshops, mentorship and one to one support.
The Beyond Brontës was established in 2019 with the aim of addressing underrepresentation in film and television.
“’Now more than ever, programmes like Beyond Brontës are vital to addressing the inequalities faced by diverse groups attempting to enter the screen industries,” said Screen Yorkshire’s programme manager Sam Fray.
“Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter have highlighted the need to have an industry that represents at all levels, so that diverse stories can be represented both on and off-screen. Striving to do better and be the change is at the heart of this programme.’’
Participants of the inaugural scheme were able to attend pitching workshops and were able to pitch to development executives from C4 and Can Can Productions.
In addition, many on the scheme have undertaken internships at regional production companies including Wise Owl, Prime Studios and True North.
Applications are now open until 12pm on 14 August, applicants must be aged 18 – 24 and live in the Leeds City region.
