CVP and Top Teks have ordered 160 of Sony’s new PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 cameras.
The two 4K cameras, which were unveiled earlier this month, are targeted at high-end drama productions and commercials.
Sony specialist CVP has ordered 100 of the PMW-F5 model, while Top-Teks has placed an order for 40 PMW-F5s and 20 of the PMW-F55 model (pictured).
The PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 use Sony’s newly developed XAVC codec.
European prices for the cameras have not been announced, but a conversion of suggested retail prices released by Sony Japan indicates the F55 will cost around £22,3500 (¥2,887,500) and the F5 approximately £13,400 (¥1,732,500).
Both cameras are expected to ship early next year.
Top Teks sales director Mike Thomas said: “The launch of Sony’s F5 and F55 opens the door for broadcast and drama productions to shoot in 4K; we will see demand quickly rise as the industry recognises the significant benefits in shooting in 4K for HD and 2K programming.”
CVP chief executive Phil Baxter added: “With features like a Super-35mm sensor, 50Mb/s and RAW recording capability, very high frame rates and a modular design, the new F5 and F55 cameras actively demonstrate that Sony have been listening to customers’ requirements.
“The ability to seamlessly switch from HD to 4K acquisition further highlights the fact that these are probably the most versatile and future-proof digital cinema cameras to date.”
