Red Bee Media is hoping an overseas broadcaster will scoop up Channel 4’s now redundant playout and studio operation at Horseferry Road after putting the second-hand kit up for sale.

The disposal of the technology assets is the final part of the decommissioning of C4’s transmission facilities, which have now been replaced by a purpose-built operation at Red Bee’s broadcast centre in White City.

EX Broadcast has been contracted to handle the sale and all proceeds will go to the broadcaster.

“Effectively, we have a whole TV station for sale,” said Red Bee’s C4 account director, Stephen Stewart. “There’s everything you would imagine from a tape and server-based operation, with the exception of post-production and the studio itself.”

Included among the list of available technology - which is described as being “in good nick” - are display monitors, vision mixers, VTRs, video cards, QC equipment and dubbing facilities.

“C4 has a good reputation for having one of the best maintenance teams around,” continued Stewart.

“The range of kit goes from one-inch machines through to up-to-date HDcam VTRs.”

Stewart said that broadcasters from Eastern Europe, Africa and Commonwealth countries were the likely buyers.
