Prime Focus is upgrading all 43 of its Media Composer editing systems to the latest software version, a move designed in part to capitalise on Avid’s stereoscopic 3D workflow capabilities.

Version 5 licences have been ordered from reseller Root6 along with workstations for each and storage upgrades for four Nitris DS suites.

The post company said that version 5’s Red and Quicktime compatibility along with the desire to improve stereo 3D post-production were major considerations in the decision.

Prime Focus UK group operations director Michael Wrightson said: “The ability to edit Red and QuickTime-sourced content without transcoding simplifies the editing process.

“Media Composer 5 will also give us the ability to mix and match formats, frame rates and sizes, aspect ratios and resolutions to an even greater extent than before. The upgrade also confirms Prime Focus’ commitment to the efficient management of stereo 3D workflows.”
