As the industry reels from the Noel Clarke allegations, Meriel Beale and Alex Pumfrey discuss what can be done

Last week’s Noel Clarke allegations sparked a debate around how this alleged behaviour was allowed to thrive in TV, and turned the focus to what can be done to prevent these incidents from happening again.

Two people working tirelessly in this space are Bectu bullying and harassment officer Meriel Beale and The Film & TV Charity chief executive Alex Pumfrey, who join Hannah Bowler and Max Goldbart this week to reflect and provide solutions. 

Meriel and Alex describe a perfect storm of issues including TV’s chronic lack of HR, freelance working practices and micro-aggressions, while pointing out what can be done to rectify the situation, and the work that is already taking place. 

Meriel penned an open letter earlier this week urging an end to TV industry sexism and sexaul harrassment, which has so far amassed more than 1000 signatories.
