Mediahouse has completed the £1.5m overhaul of its west London facility in time for the start of the Premier League football season this weekend.
The IMG company, which is responsible for providing studio facilities for ESPN, has created two HD and 3D-capable galleries to support three studios, with the facility now boasting four HD studios.
The 21,000 sq ft Studio A has also had its set refreshed. Mediahouse general manager Shane Warden said the studios are 3G-ready for 1080-50P productions.
ESPN showed the FA Cup final in 3D last season and the studio’s 3D stereoscopic options mean if the broadcaster decides to add 3D studio content to its match coverage, Mediahouse will be ready.
The changes have been made in time for ESPN’s first live HD Premier League match, which will transmit on Saturday (13 August).
Six Sony HXC100 HD cameras have been added to Studio A, while Sony MVS-8000X switchers have been coupled with Miranda Technology’s 8500 Hybrid router to allow resource sharing and change over between all of the studios.
“This complements the full service HD post and transmission facility we have in our other building, which is connected to the studio by fibre,” Warden said.
The smaller of the two production galleries looks after the BBC’s The Football League Show, which is also based at the facility, although the round-up of league football will be broadcast in SD rather than HD.
The work on the studios was completed during the close season.
