Top industry speakers are gearing up to discuss all things broadcast, including new tech and content wishlists, at this year’s new-look Media Production Show
The Media Production Show (MPS) 2018 has revealed its first confirmed speakers, with a fascinating line-up for its 80-strong seminar programme and two new theatres: the Blackmagic Design Live Production Theatre and the Digital Disrupters Theatre.
The Blackmagic Design Live Production Theatre, in association with Disguise, will offer a truly hands-on experience with the latest technology, including cameras, switching and graphics devices, lighting and sound kit, all against a stunning backdrop supplied by Disguise.
The programme of content in this theatre will reflect a ‘live studio’ environment, with interviews, demonstrations and live music.
Confirmed speakers in the all-new Digital Disrupters Theatre include Sol Rogers, founder and chief executive of Rewind and chair of Bafta VR Immerse UK; Aurelien Simon, head of immersive at Digital Catapult; and Dom Bird, head of formats at Channel 4.
Rogers and Simon will examine how creative industries are – and could be – embracing immersive technologies, while Bird will explain the next steps for innovative digital channel E4 and the kind of content he is seeking.
Joining them on stage will be YouTube ambassador and TV talent Humza Arshad, who will examine the current status of YouTube content and where the next talent is coming from, and Hasraf Dulull of HaZ Film, who will look at the position of films in a digital download world.
“Digital disruption, immersive technologies and the changing face of media are topics that cannot be ignored by content creators and broadcasters of all shapes and sizes,” said MPS event director Charlotte Wheeler.
“Our expert speakers come armed with invaluable knowledge and advice to help media professionals understand the opportunities and practicalities of these exciting new technologies.”
EXPERT OPINION
Several leading drama commissioners will be coming to the show for the first time. The line-up for the Keynote Theatre includes ITV head of drama Polly Hill, Studio Lambert head of drama Susan Hogg and Fox Networks Group, Europe & Africa, vice-president of non-scripted drama Sara Johnson – who will discuss their current plans and wishlists for the coming year.
In addition, there will be a panel session with leading experts from the factual indie landscape, including Spun Gold TV managing director Nick Bullen, Crackit Productions creative director Elaine Hackett, Boundless managing director Neil Smith and Lambent Productions managing director Emma Wakefield.
The Post Production Creative Hub will stage two ‘State of the Nation’-style discussions about the post-production market, featuring Dave Bourke and Donna Mulvey-Jones, heads of post from Lion TV and Fremantle Media UK respectively.
On the technology side, MPC head of technology Karsten Hacker and Sky News head of technology Steve Bennedik will discuss the latest innovations in post and how they can improve on-screen content and workflows.
The Production Theatre will feature a number of fascinating sessions, including shooting on a budget, financing, location planning and sustainability in production.
Other new seminars include launching an indie and podcasting – a new content area in which many indies are now investing.
Some exciting keynote speakers have also been lined up, including wildlife cinematographer Doug Allan, who will share his extraordinary animal adventures and show some unique wildlife footage.
