Kodak has announced the closure of its digital imaging service at Cinesite Europe in London with the loss of 18 jobs, writes Sam Espensen.

The company is to concentrate on the visual effects business, while its Hollywood office is to become the centre for its digital imaging business.

Cinesite chief executive Colin Brown told Broadcast: "The European visual effects service has been highly successful, and this is reflected in the decision to concentrate our UK efforts on that side of the business. However the market for digital mastering has always been much healthier in the US, and there is a need for Cinesite to adjust its international business strategy to reflect this."

A Cinesite spokesman denied that the company was on the brink of closing its UK operations, citing the new 15-year lease on its Sheraton Street office in London as a sign that Kodak has faith in the market.

The visual effects department is currently working on 300 shots for the next Harry Potter film.
