Takes up content business development role at Barcelona-based VoD platform
European VoD platform Rakuten TV has snapped up Viaplay buyer Maria Chacon Brito for a senior content role.
Chacon Brito has been appointed content business development manager at the Barcelona-headquartered Rakuten TV and will leave London to take up for the role.
In the role she will be focused on acquiring ready-made and curated FAST channels from global distributors for Rakuten TV’s AVoD business. Rakuten TV has become one of the leading FAST channel providers in Europe since it entered the market in 2019.
Chacon Brito has been at Viaplay for 11 years, having served in numerous key acquisitions and content roles across channels and platforms, most recently serving as acquisitions and distributions manager in the Swedish media giant’s London office.
Her responsibilities included acquiring content across all genres and territories, for all Viaplay’s channels and digital services – including flagship streamer Viaplay.
Most recently, she was focused on buying kids programming for Viaplay, playing a central role in creating a substantial kids content offering for the global SVoD. Other notable deals include the Sony volume deals for Viaplay’s Poland and Baltic services.
Viaplay is currently recruiting for her replacement who will focus on acquiring content for Viaplay’s UK service, which launches later this year.
They will join Shoshana Wilson in the London team, and will report to Bun Beeson, vice-president of acquisitions for pay-TV and VoD.
