Adaptation of ITV1 quiz show leads latest global sales 

BBC Studios has sold the first international license for ITV1 quiz show In With A Shout to W9 France.  

Originally created by Expectation last year, the local adaptation with be produced by BBC Studios Productions France and will be titled Video Quiz. The format will see contestants having to correctly answer questions hidden within a montage of moving images displayed on TV screens for a chance to increase their prize pot.

Masked Singer presenter Joel Dommett presents the ITV1 returner, while the actor Issa Doumbia (Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom) will host the French version.  

BBCS managing director of global entertainment Matt Forde said: “We are really proud of the current slate of varied and exciting titles we have to offer the market. Working with our amazing local teams and brilliant creators, ensures local audiences get tailor-made versions of titles like In With A Shout.” 

The French series is due to air from Thursday 24 October. 

Trump: The Criminal Conspiracy Case 

All3Media International has signed its first round of international pre-sales for upcoming 72 Films feature doc Trump: The Criminal Conspiracy Case for BBC2. 

Produced in association with All3Media International, the doc is set to air on DR (Denmark), NRK (Norway), SVT (Sweden), Movistar Plus+ (Spain, Spanish-speaking Andorra) and VRT (Flemish-speaking Belgium). Further afield, it has been acquired by Nine Network in Australia, and Now TV Hong Kong.

Directed by Marian Mohamed, Trump: The Criminal Conspiracy Case will examine the criminal case against Donald Trump, which accuses him of spearheading a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election result. It has access to people on both sides of the case including Trump’s co-defendants.

The doc will premiere on BBC2 tomorrow (23 October).  

Whitstable Pearl 

Cineflix Rights has secured a raft of deals for Acorn TV cosy crime series Whitstable Pearl, produced by Buccanneer. 

All three series, set in the English seaside town of Whitstable, are heading to Corus (Canada) for French-language drama channel SériesPlus, and RTS (Switzerland). 

Euskal Telebista-EBT (Spain) has bought series one and two and Warner Bros. Discovery has bought series one for its Italian service, with NHK (Japan) taking Season two.

SVT (Sweden), NRK (Norway), DR (Denmark), TV2 (Denmark) have all acquired Season three and BBC Worldwide has taken Season three for its services covering Benelux and Asia, and NBCU International Networks also acquiring it for its pan-Africa networks. 

It follows Kerry Godliman’s character who divides her time between her restaurant and solving crimes.

Cineflix Rights chief executive Tim Mutimer said: “Buyers can’t get enough of cosy crime as it remains one of the most in-demand drama genres. Whitstable Pearl delivers the perfect mix of quirky plots, loveable characters and a beautiful seaside landscape, really bringing Julie Wassmer’s novels to life for fans around the world.”  

Irvine Welsh’s Crime

Cineflix Rights has also announced sales for another Buccanneer production, Irvine Welsh’s Crime, which is an ITVX/ BritBox commission. 

The two series have been acquired by Telefonica’s pay TV platform Movistar Plus+ (Spain), SBS (Australia), RTE (Ireland), Blue Entertainment (Switzerland), and Canal+ for viewers in Luxembourg, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Netherlands. 

Adapted by Welsh from his own novel, and starring Dougray Scott, it follows a detective engaged in his own disturbing battle while undertaking serious crime investigations.  

Mutimer said: “The combination of Irvine Welsh’s own adaptation of his best-selling novels, together with Dougray Scott’s powerful, award-winning performance has made this a top performing series for us with buyers around the world, and we’re anticipating further deals at Mipcom.” 

Seven Wonders of the Natural World 

Channel 5 has become the first broadcast partner for history docuseries Seven Wonders of the Natural World from Keshet International and SandStone Global.  

The 3 x 60-minute series will be presented by Professor Bettany Hughes, based on her best-selling book and filmed across the Great Pyramid of Giza, The Colossus of Rhodes, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and the Statue of Zeus at Olympia.

The series was ordered by C5 commissioning editor Adrian Padmore for broadcast next year.
