Banijay swoops for Romeo and Duet  

Banijay Rights has secured the global distribution rights to Goat Films’ singing/ dating format ahead of its premiere on ITV this Saturday (April 16). 

The format gives contestants one song to entice a singleton down from a balcony, where the two will come face-to-face for the first time. The newly formed couple will then learn a duet together, before returning to perform the song together against other couples. 

Banijay has taken format and finished tape rights, with executive vice president of acquisitions Simon Cox describing the show as “a heart-warming extravaganza”.  

Romeo & Duet is executive produced by Mel Crawford. It was developed from an original idea by Ivor and David Baddiel and commissioned by ITV head of entertainment Katie Rawcliffe and commissioning editor Joe Mace.  

Distribution agency Drive scores over content deals with AMC and Foxtel  

Distribution agency Drive has sold more than 70 hours of premium factual content to AMC Networks International and Australia’s Foxtel.  

The former has bought 44 hours of programming made by First Look TV, Voltage TV and Screendog to air across its Spanish and Portuguese networks including Canal HISTORIA and Crime + investigation in a deal negotiated by Drive’s senior sales executive for Iberia Eniela Bella.  

Separately, Foxtel has landed 28 hours of programming including factual entertainment series Kings of the Wood from Ricochet Productionsm Auschwitz Untold from Fulwell 73 and October Films’ Trains That Changed The World.  

Drive recently took its biggest ever slate to MipTV, with 110 hours of new content.  

Netflix unveils nine new Polish series  

Netflix is ramping up its ambitions in Poland as it unveils nine series launching in the coming months.  

The titles include a crime adaptation set across the Tatra Mountains titled Detective Frost, a black comedy called The Green Glove Gang and a futuristic drama titled A Girl and an Astronaut, and will “strengthen the bond with the local creative community”, according to a joint statement from Anna Nagler (local languages central eastern Europe) and Lukasz Kluskiewicz (content acquisitions central eastern Europe).
