High-end digital film cameras proved popular among resellers and hire firms at this year’s IBC, with the first European orders for Sony’s new F65 camera placed at the show.

CVP and Top Teks will spend £860,000 each on 10 of the F65 kits, including camera, rotary shutter, SR-R4 recorder, 256GB memory card, viewfinder and SR-PC4 SR Master data transfer unit.

CVP Group chief executive Phil Baxter said there had been “huge interest” in the camera from rental companies and high-end content producers, while Top Teks managing director Mike Thomas said customers were interested in the F65 because “they see it as the next step to create truly stunning images”.

Rental firm 24-7 Drama placed a £400,000 order for two of Arri’s flagship Alexa Studio cameras with optical viewfinders, and two codex recorders.

24-7 Drama company director Graham Hawkins said: “The system takes digital cinematography into a new era - a digital camera with a filmic viewfinder. Coupled with the codex recording facility, it is the de facto solution.”

Meanwhile, Arri has delivered the first production models of its modular Alexa M camera to the Cameron Pace Group for use in the company’s 3D rigs.
