This week’s IBC exhibition in Amsterdam will be alive with talk of mergers and acquisitions after reports that both Avid and Blackmagic Design have completed buy-outs of fellow manufacturers.
Although official confirmation has not been received, FX Guide reports that Avid has purchased Maximum Throughput, the company best known for its sledgehammer line which provides storage and IO technology.
It was told: “This acquisition is an example of how Avid is investing in technology to complement our ongoing innovative work on our current solutions. Avid has notified all Max-T customers about the acquisition and communicated our assurance to honor existing support agreements, as well our plans at present time to discontinue future sales or new development of Max-T products.”
Meanwhile, Blackmagic Design is reported to have completed a deal to buy Da Vinci, the film coloring and restoration technology company.
According to TV Technology: “Blackmagic bought da Vinci for its ‘performance,’ but added that the company was losing money.”
No financial details have been revealed. Confirmation of both deals is expected to be announced at IBC which starts on Thursday (10 September).
