Channel 4 New Media and Conker Media - Mersey Television's digital development and production division - are launching an improved mobile phone soap opera that will run alongside Channel 4's Hollyoaks.

The multimedia messaging service (MMS) will send five images and text complementing current storylines at the end of each weekday episode. The weekly service will cost£1.50 (plus operator fees).

Andy Taylor, managing director of Channel 4 New Media, said: 'This is the first time in Europe that an MMS service has been based on an existing TV drama. Working closely with Conker Media I am delighted we continue to provide innovative content to Hollyoaksfans on a key new media platform.'

The service follows the introduction of the Hollyoaksdaily mobile text alert service last January, where subscribers received daily texts ( Broadcast, 20.11.03).
