Hireworks is providing editing systems for production of the futuristic BBC1 show Outcasts and for a new Martin Scorsese movie.

For the Kudos produced drama, daily rushes are being sent over a 45 MB/s internet connection from the location shoot in South Africa for editing on Avid back in Soho.

At the same time the post-production equipment hire company is supplying newly purchased Lightworks editing systems for Martin Scorsese’s new film which is an adaptation of children’s novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret.

The process for the 3D shot feature will incorporate three Lightworks film editors and an Avid Nitris DX system networked on an EditShare XStream with 32 Terabytes of storage.

Lawrie Read, Hirework’s executive director, said “We are pleased to be busy, buying new kit and recruiting more staff at a time when everyone believed there would be a general downturn in the industry.”

Hireworks have spent in excess of £100,000 on the editing and storage kit and two 46” 3D monitors from JVC.

The Lightworks open source system being used is the first new version of the software to be released following the sale of technology to EditShare.
