Johanna Helman promoted as Coty Cagliolo exits after 11 years at business
Fremantle has appointed non-scripted exec Johanna Helman as head of its Mexican business following the departure of veteran leader Coty Cagliolo.
Helman, who has been with the super-indie for eight years, has been made managing director of Mexico and head of production, Latin America. She is tasked with growing Fremantle’s LatAm business and cementing it as one of the leading production houses in the territory.
Helman joined in 2016 to exec produce Fremantle’s first live TV show in Mexico, cooking format Cocineros Mexicanos for TV Azteca.
In 2020, she led Fremantle’s debut unscripted order for Netflix, with the production of Thames-Talkback dating juggernaut Too Hot to Handle, for which she won the best entertainment producer gong at pre-eminent LatAm creative awards ceremony the Produ Awards. Prior to her promotion, she served as vice-president of production.
She is upped as Cagliolo steps down at the end of the year after 11 years at Fremantle. The exec has served as general manager of Fremantle Mexico and head of production, LatAm since 2017, where she led the regional development strategy.
At the helm, Cagliolo played a central role in growing to Fremantle’s business in the region, driving productions in key markets, besides fortifying the company’s presence in Brazil and Argentina.
Cagliolo said: “After much reflection, I’ve made the decision to step away from my role at Fremantle to pursue new challenges. It has been an honour to lead such an incredible team, and I’m deeply grateful for the memories and achievements we’ve shared.”
Ganesh Rajaram, Fremantle’s Asia & Latin America chief exec, thanked Cagliolo and said: “With over 20 years in the industry and eight years at Fremantle, Johanna has the experience and expertise to step into this role, and I look forward to working with her more closely as we focus on the expansion of Fremantle in Latin America.”
