Christian Rank named head of development at Fremantle-backed firm
Fremantle-backed Nordic indie Miso Film has appointed former DR commissioner Christian Rank as head of development and producer.
Rank was previously head of drama at Danish public service broadcaster DR from 2018 to September 2021, where he was responsible for programmes including When the Dust Settles, Cry Wolf, Doggystyle, Jelefeber and the latest series of Borgen. He was also behind TV 2 series Rita, Norskov, Warrior and Lucky Per.
He will join Miso in August and will be responsible for growing the company and strengthening its creative profile in the Nordics.
Founded in 2004, Miso’s upcoming projects include HBO Max’s Lust, The Investigation and feature film The Bombardment.
Peter Bose, chief exec of Miso, said that Rank’s appointment is important step in accomplishing Miso’s ambition of growth and fulfilling its “huge market potential”.
“The market has developed rapidly for several years, where streaming services and TV stations have increased the level of local content considerably. At the same time, the demands are higher than ever. Not everything performs well for the services, so there’s an increased focus on quality, originality, and consistency from both streaming services and TV-stations,” Bose added.
Rank also noted the changing TV landscape and the “tough requirements” it places on production companies.
“Miso Film is among the strongest and most ambitious production companies in Scandinavia, and their future goal of developing both local and international productions is both attractive and ambitious,” he stated.
