The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has appointed former RTE director general Noel Curran to succeed Ingrid Deltenre as its own director general.
Curran, who is expected to take up the position at the beginning of September, was also managing director of television and editor of current affairs at RTE.
Jean-Paul Philippot, president of the EBU, said, “Noel impressed us with his sound public service values, his operational experience and his understanding of the public service media ecosystem.”
A former journalist, Curran executive produced The Eurovision Song Contest in 1997.
Commenting on his new appointment, Noel Curran said, “I will work with the membership to seize every opportunity and to move ahead with the changes necessary to secure the future of public service media.”
