The Digital TV Group (DTG) has appointed former ITV director of future technologies Simon Fell as the new independent chair of the DTG Technical Council.
The DTG Technical Council guides the technical activities of the DTG, providing recommendations to the DTG Council and taking responsibility for approving the work and publications in all technical working groups including the D-Book.
Fell replaces Dr Ian Childs who has been in the post since the Technical Council was formed in 2004.
Richard Lindsay-Davies, the director general of the DTG, said: “With over 30 years of technical experience, Simon is expertly placed to take an independent lead on Technical Council as the DTG moves in to providing the technical specification for Connected TV and profiling a UK standard for 3DTV.”
Fell is currently technology consultant to Freeview working on the launch of Freeview HD, Connected TV, VOD services, and liaison with CE manufacturers.
His CV includes senior engineering roles at Rushes, 625, Channel4, Rank Cintel and Yorkshire Television
Fell will take up his new role on 1 April 2010.
