Merger could create new player in the race for scale

Yet another expanded streaming service, a franchise library ranging from Top Gun to Batman, and the prospect of more synergies and savings are likely outcomes of a potential merger between US giants Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount.

Both companies have already recently completed mergers (WarnerMedia and Discovery, and CBS and Viacom respectively), and the fresh round of takeover talks are an example of the frenzied race for scale taking place in Hollywood.

Costanza Barrai, the media analyst for Broadcast parent company GlobalData, has assessed how the two companies might come together and some of the challenges and opportunities around the mooted deal.
