The privately funded school will run short evening courses for industry professionals as well as longer full-time courses aimed at those looking to break into the visual effects business.
Founded by freelance 3D animator Dominic Davenport, Escape Studios has financial backing from a number of sources including Crow TV managing director Paul Kingsley, film financier Marek Gumienny and the publishing/marketing duo behind The Forward Group, Neil Mendoza and William Sieghart.
The curriculum has been developed in association with design and post-production executives at BBC Resources, Mill Film, Cinesite and the Moving Picture Company. They will also tutor some of the courses, complementing full-time tutors Davenport - who will teach 3D - and American Garrett Honn who will teach 2D and compositing skills.
The school is based in the brand new Westbourne Studios complex in London's Notting Hill and will share communal facilities such as the atrium (pictured), meeting rooms and viewing theatre. Packages taught will include Alias Wavefront Maya, Softimage XSI, Pixar Renderman, Apple Shake, Discreet Combustion and Adobe Photoshop. Further information is available at www.escapestudios.co.uk.
