The 2003 RTS Award for Technical Innovation has been won by the Vista (virtual human interface for a set-top box agent) project, an electronic programme guide (EPG) that aims to improve visually impaired and elderly viewers' access to digital TV. It has become apparent that viewers who are elderly or visually impaired find it difficult to navigate menus and screens, and this device allows them to query by voice, with an avatar on screen to answer questions.
