Design, direction and 3D: Morgan Sendall and Concrete
Client: BBC1
How it was done: A porcelain piggy bank is smashed to reveal spinning coins. Digital artist Aleksandar Stiglic used Sub-Division Surfaces in Maya to model a 3D piggy bank and hammer, then used Mel-Scripts to shatter the piggy bank and a PhysX plug-in to add realism. Stiglic also animated by hand the 3D coin that pirouettes in slow motion amongst the fragments. The background was then blurred in Smoke to keep the piggy bank in full focus.
Watch it: On iPlayer from 2 February.
