Brief Provide visual effect support for comedy series Cradle To Grave, which stars Peter Kay. Set in 1974, it follows the early life of Danny Baker and his family.
How it was done Visual effects supervisor Tanvir Hanif helped to realise the period’s tone. A range of effects was needed, from recreating London’s 1970s dockyards with CGI ships and cranes, to morphing a man into a snail and creating showers of digital maggots.
Filmed in Liverpool and Manchester, major environment enhancements were required. Effects were created using Autodesk Smoke 2016 and Blackmagic Design’s Fusion. Duties were shared, with Anthony Brownmoore of BlueSpill VFX, senior post-producer Becci Blood and VFX producer Laura Zeraati together delivering more than 350 effect shots.
